Title IX

What is Title IX

Title IX is a Federal Civil Rights Statute that states: No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.

As part of the Ringgold School District mission to prepare students today for the challenges of tomorrow, it is our responsibility to continually develop an organizational culture that is respectful and inclusive of all students and staff. To that end, the District strives to maintain a safe, positive learning environment for all students that is free from discrimination. On May 19, 2020, the U.S. Secretary of Education amended the regulations implementing Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. Those regulations became effective on August 14, 2020 and required the District to update certain policies, identify specific roles, and post information related to Title IX on the District website. On April 19, 2024, the U.S. Department of Education released its Final Rule under Title IX, publishing revised regulations for the implementation of Title IX. The revisions became effective on August 1, 2024, and apply to complaints of sex-based discrimination or harassment regarding alleged conduct that occurs on or after that date.

It is the policy of Ringgold School District to ensure an equal opportunity in admissions, employment and programs, services, and activities without any consideration of an individual’s race, color, national origin, sex, gender identity or expression, age, religion, disability, veteran status, genetic information, and/or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local law. Ringgold School District’s policies are publicly available and located on the District website, including how to submit reports and/or complaints of sex discrimination and the pertinent grievance procedures concerning the same.

Ringgold School District also declares it to be the policy of the District to comply with federal law and regulations under Title IX prohibiting sexual harassment, which is a form of unlawful discrimination on the basis of sex. Inquiries regarding the application of Title IX to Ringgold School District may be referred to the Title IX Coordinator, to the Office for Civil Rights of the U.S. Department of Education, or both.

For information regarding Title IX, civil rights, grievance procedures or access, contact the District’s Title IX Coordinator.
