What is Title IX

Title IX is a Federal Civil Rights Statute that states: No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.

As part of the Ringgold School District mission to prepare students today for the challenges of tomorrow, it is our responsibility to continually develop an organizational culture that is respectful and inclusive of all students and staff. To that end, the District strives to maintain a safe, positive learning environment for all students that is free from discrimination. On May 19, 2020, the U.S. Secretary of Education amended the regulations implementing Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. The new regulations became effective on August 14, 2020 and required the District to update certain policies, identify specific roles, and post information related to Title IX on the District website.

The U.S. Department of Education requires school districts to share Title IX training materials used by the District, which materials are aligned to the board policies listed on this site.

The Ringgold School District does not discriminate in its educational programs, activities, or employment practices on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, disability, age, religion, gender, gender expression, ancestry, genetic information, or and other legally protected category. Announcement of this policy is in accordance with state law including the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act and with Federal law including Title VI and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
