Ringgold High School Summer Reading Lists

  The summer reading project(s) is/are due the first day of school (August 26th).  If the project(s) is/are turned in after the first day of school, there will be a deduction of 10 points per day per project.  Each project is worth 100 points and will be included in the first nine weeks grade.  If you are a transfer student, please see your English teacher to see if you qualify for extended time on the project(s).

Instructions for Summer Reading Project

0. Select the book(s) you want to read from the list. 

0. Complete ONE of the following creative activities for each novel.

   • Create a character scrapbook for one of the major characters that traces his or her development throughout the novel.  Consider the kinds of mementoes you would have put in a scrapbook if you were experiencing the character’s life.  This should include information about the conflict the character faces, details of the plot, and an overview of character development.
   • Create a collage that demonstrates an important theme from the book.  A theme is the point that the author is trying to make.  It can also be looked at as a moral or lesson of a story.  The theme is not one word.  Be sure your collage tells a significant amount of the story.
   • Create a Powerpoint presentation with information on the importance of setting in the novel.  Think about the time and place of the novel.  Would the novel be different if this was changed?  Include at least eight slides with images and text.  IMPORTANT: When you include an image, make sure you include the name of the site the images came from in small font at the bottom of the slide.
